Review:
Think back to 1994. What were you doing? If you were like most, you were probably engrossed in that new game console called SNES. What a wonder that puppy was. If you were like me, PC games just didn’t cut it. They didn’t cut it for anyone, and the developers knew it. They had to come out with something fresh; something to pry all those Street Fighter junkies away from their TV’s and back onto their PC’s; something totally new to blow all the other games, on any other console, away.

In 1994, Blizzard Entertainment did just that. They came up with an entirely revolutionary way of play a strategy game: Real Time. Say it again, Real Time. What was this Real Time? It was a totally different method of gaming that would plow the way for hundreds of other RTS games to follow.

If you’re like me, the first time you played WC, it scared the bejeebies out of you. You’re taking your time, thinking out your strategy when all of a sudden, it’s over. A wave of orcish grunts and spearmen raze your city. Game Over.

The game’s ended and your just sitting there wondering, “What the hell just happened…”. How could they have attacked; my turn wasn’t over… WarCraft forced us to view games from a totally different perspective. No more dicking around planning out your strategy, you had to be on the ball, all the time. The next couple games after that first attack, my hands were shaking. I was constantly wondering when they would attack; not wanting to be totally annihilated again. Time went by though and I adapted. Now I can’t imagine having ever not played a game RT.

WarCraft is based in the medieval land of Lordaeron. Ruled by the Humans, Lordaeron was a peaceful land for centuries, until the Orcs arrived. Brutish by nature, the Orcs seemed bent on destroying the Humans and destroying the entire land. Whether you play the Human or Orcish campaigns, you must dive into the interesting and detailed storyline to accomplish your ultimate mission. With movies after every couple games, WarCraft has, IMO, one of the most unique methods of telling you your mission objectives. (Refer to one of the pics) In this first version of the now trilogy, the WarCraft units are pretty equal on both sides. The only real differences are in magics. Priests have different spells than Necromancers.

There’s so much to say about WC, but I guess I’ll just end off with saying: It’s Gold. It\'s just $20 at Chips & Bits with Warcraft II and the Warcraft II expansion.
